Accredited Dog Trainer with over 13 years of experience.
Worked in rescues, residential training, assistance dogs and for himself.
Ross got into dog training because of his first German Shepherd, Storm (pictured here and the picture that inspired the logo of Top Dog). Ross adopted Storm from a well known rescue who assessed her as being friendly and sociable with people and dogs. Not long after owning Storm she showed aggression to members of the family and to other dogs. At the time Ross hadn’t studied dog behaviour and psychology and asked the rescue for help who claimed to provide after care help. After receiving no help and being ignored by the rescue Ross decided to study to become a trainer and behaviourist. 12 months later of training Storm and she was able to be off lead around people, kids, dogs and animals without having to wear a muzzle.
Due to his experiences Ross didn’t want other dog owners to feel like he did, lost and helpless. He created Top Dog so he could help owners and give them the tools they need to have a happy and well behaved dog.
Ross finds your dog’s motivations and uses that to train your dog and achieve the results you want.
It can be easy to look at your dog and say you don’t like it when they do this or do that. Instead he asks owners to flip that way of thinking on its head and start to look at what they want their dog to do and focus on that. The more you say to your dog you like what they’re doing, the more they will do it. The more they do the behaviours you want the more positive your training becomes, the more positive your training becomes the more your dog will learn to behave.
